Abraham Accords negotiator Adam Boehler chosen as Trump’s hostage affairs envoy
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Adam Boehler as his Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs when his administration takes office on Jan. 20, 2025.
Boehler is an American businessman and former government official with a background in healthcare innovation and investment.
“He has negotiated with some of the toughest people in the World, including the Taliban, but Adam knows that NO ONE is tougher than the United States of America, at least when President Trump is its Leader,” Trump said in his announcement on his Truth Social media platform on Wednesday. “Adam will work tirelessly to bring our Great American Citizens HOME.”
Trump also noted that Boehler worked in the previous Trump administration as “a Lead Negotiator on the Abraham Accords team,” which enabled Israel to normalize relations with the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Morocco.
Boehler thanked Trump in a post on 𝕏, stating: “There is nothing more important than bringing Americans home.”
In his post, Boehler tagged various appointees with whom he will work in the Trump administration, including Steve Witkoff, the newly appointed Special Envoy to the Middle East.
Witkoff is a prominent American real estate investor and developer, and the founder of the Witkoff Group. He was selected for the role by Trump last month and has already been laying the groundwork for the incoming Trump administration’s plans for the Middle East.
Witkoff met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu late last month, the Times of Israel reported.
He also reportedly met with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, whose nation has played a key role in hostage negotiations between Israel and Hamas leadership.
The Times of Israel reported that “Biden’s aides [are] aware of Witkoff’s meetings and understand that Witkoff supports a Gaza deal along the lines the administration has been pursuing, but did not see a need to coordinate with him,” citing an anonymous U.S. official.
Despite a lack of coordination, “Biden’s team has kept the Trump camp updated,” the report stated.
