Bennett heads to UAE today for historic first visit by an Israeli prime minister
Bennett expected to meet Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, to discuss deepening ties between the two nations including economic and regional issues, such as Iran
History is in the making today as Prime Minister Naftali Bennett is heading to the United Arab Emirates for the first-ever visit by an Israeli prime minister to the Gulf nation.
After the three-hour flight, the prime minister is expected to meet tomorrow with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, to discuss deepening ties between the two nations, including economic and regional issues that will contribute to the prosperity, welfare and to strengthening the stability between the two countries, according to the prime minister's media advisor.
In June, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid visited Abu Dhabi and inaugurated the Israeli Embassy in what was at the time the first high-level trip by an Israeli official since the Abraham Accords were signed in September 2020.
Former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should have been the first Israeli premier to visit the UAE and had several opportunities. In fact, he had four trips scheduled but all four were canceled for different reasons.
The honor now goes to Bennett who departed Israel this morning.
