Three Israelis injured in Tel Aviv terror attack, terrorist was shot by police
The shooter reportedly hid inside a building after his killing spree, exchanged fire with police before being shot
A Palestinian terrorist opened fired on Israelis near a restaurant on the popular Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv Thursday night.
Israeli media reported that at least three men in their 20s were wounded in the attack. One suffered critical injuries, while the others were moderately or lightly injured.
Israeli police shot the terrorist at the scene. According to Ynet news, the shooter was critically hurt and evacuated to Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center.
“Two officers engaged with the terrorist and shot him on the spot. We are continuing to check whether any others are still at large,” said Tel Aviv District Police Chief Amichai Eshed, despite being ousted from his position earlier in the day by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to Israeli media outlets said they heard eight gunshots. David Freeman, a civilian who volunteers with the Israel Police, described the perpetrator as hiding inside a building from where he exchanged fire with police. After a few minutes, the shooter ran outside the building and was then neutralized, Freeman said.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently in Italy, was notified of the shooting while visiting Rome’s ancient synagogue. Netanyahu sent his best wishes to the wounded.
“We are strengthening the security forces’ activity against the terrorists. I am certain that these acts will not for even a single moment lessen our determination to continue to build our country, to plant deep roots in our homeland, and to ensure our common future,” Netanyahu said.
Hamas spokesperson Abd al-Latif al-Qanua said the attack in Tel Aviv was “a response to the crimes of the Zionist occupation,” referencing the killing of three Palestinian terrorists during an Israel Defense Forces raid in Jenin last Thursday.
Al-Qanua vowed that Hamas “will continue to resist and confront the settler government until the occupation is removed from our land.”
