Hate crimes against Jews in US on the rise, new study reveals
Jews were the victims of 470 hate crime incidents, a number that represents about 78% of all hate crimes in the United States, an increase of 28% compared to the previous year, a study published by California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) shows.
Seattle, Chicago and Fort Lauderdale were the standout U.S. cities, noted for having the sharpest rise in the absolute number of attacks.
The cities with the highest total number of reported incidents were New York with 231, Los Angeles with 91 and Chicago with 36 incidents.
Among the top causes for the concerning rise in hate crimes, researchers named conspiracy theories on social media, with some of them being echoed by politicians and celebrities like Kanye West; conflicts fought by the IDF in Gaza in 2021 and 2022; and the effect of the rise of religious nationalism and anti-government protests.
