US CENTCOM reports shooting down 24 Houthi missiles and drones in Red Sea
Iranian-backed Houthis launched a barrage of drones and missiles at vessels traversing the shipping route in the southern Red Sea Tuesday evening.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that U.S. Navy and UK Royal Navy ships shot down 24 drones, cruise missiles and anti-ship ballistic missiles in the attack.
No injuries or damage were reported following the attack.
According to CENTCOM, “This is the 26th Houthi attack on commercial shipping lanes in the Red Sea since Nov. 19.”
The United States and its allies have established a multinational maritime operation called “Operation Prosperity Guardian" to increase patrols of the Red Sea to help protect seafarers and defend the freedom of navigation amid heightened attacks by the Houthis in Yemen.
