In an interview with Sky News published on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi suggested Israelis should be sent to Greenland, responding to Trump’s suggestion that Gazans be sent to Jordan and Egypt.

“I think this is a project that many tried to do in the past, but they have all failed,” the Iranian foreign minister stated. “You know, Palestine cannot be deleted from this region, Palestinians cannot be expelled. So my suggestion is something else. Instead of Palestinians, try to expel Israelis. Take them to Greenland, so they can kill two birds with one stone. So they can resolve the problem in Greenland, and Israelis, so it would be a good place for them.”

Araghchi’s made the comments to mock U.S. President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly spoken of his desire for America to acquire Greenland, which is currently under Denmark’s authority.

While the the Iranian foreign minister was smiling when he made the comments about sending Israelis to Greenland, he answered the follow up question seriously.

“So you don’t think the Israelis have a right to live in what they regard as their homeland?” SkyNews’ Dominic Waghorn asked.

“Well everybody has the right to live, but nobody has the right to occupy others’ lands,” Araghchi replied. “And this is the land of Palestinians, and Palestinians should decide for their land and their destiny.”

The exchange came in reaction to Trump’s recent remarks that America should work with Arab nations to “clean out” Gaza.

“I’d like Egypt to take people, and I’d like Jordan to take people,” Trump said to reporters on Air Force One. “You’re talking about probably a million and a half people, we just clean out that whole thing.”

“Almost everything’s demolished, and people are dying there,” he continued. “So, I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations, and build housing in a different location, where they can maybe live in peace for a change.”
