Foreign Minister Eli Cohen visits Bahrain, will inaugurate Israeli embassy's permanent residence
This is the first official visit by this government to the kingdom
Israel’s Foreign Minister Eli Cohen began his first state visit to an Abraham Accords nation on Sunday, landing at Bahrain International Airport near the capital Manama.
Cohen was greeted by his Bahraini counterpart Abdullatif Al Zayani and Bahrain’s Ambassador to Israel Khaled Al Jalahma.

During the 3-day visit, Cohen will officially inaugurate the permanent residence of the Israeli embassy in Manama and sign several memoranda of understanding between Israel and Bahrain, Israel’s Channel 14 reported.
Cohen is accompanied by a political and commercial delegation that will participate in activities to promote trade and investments between the two countries.
The foreign minister was previously scheduled to visit the kingdom in late July, but that trip was canceled. At the time, Bahrain said it was “postponed due to schedule constraints,” however, many believe it was because of National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s controversial visit to the Temple Mount.
Cohen has been working to continue expanding the Abraham Accords and has visited several Muslim countries since assuming his role. Last week, he met with Libyan Foreign Minister Najla El Mangoush in Rome. The historic meeting eventually led to her dismissal and a diplomatic fiasco, according to reports.
Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates announced the normalization of relations with Israel in the summer of 2020, the first signatories of the historic Abraham Accords facilitated by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
