Hundreds killed in Syria from earthquake
While most of the focus of today’s deadly earthquake has been on its epicenter in Turkey, at least 810 Syrians have been killed as a result of the same event.
Gaziantep, a Turkish city which felt the massive tremors, is only some 40 kilometers from the border of Syria.
Suffering great devastation and the collapse of many structures, members of the Syrian Civil Defense, known as the “White Helmets,” ran to the assistance of trapped citizens, pulling many from the rubble in the northwest area of Zardana.
It was reported that more than 230 others in the province of Idlib and Aleppo were injured, with the casualty numbers and death toll expected to rise. Hundreds of families are believed to be buried under the rubble.
