First female IDF soldier killed during Gaza ground campaign is among the fallen
The IDF announced the deaths of three combat soldiers and a paramedic who were killed during the fighting in the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday.
Captain Daniel Mimon Toaff (23) from Moreshet, served as a Deputy Company Commander in the 'Shaked' Battalion, 'Givati' Brigade.
Staff Sergeant Amit Bakri (20) from Yoshivia, also served as a soldier in the 'Shaked' Battalion, 'Givati' Brigade.
Staff Sergeant Dotan Shimon (21) from Elazar in Gush Etzion, also served as a soldier in the 'Shaked' Battalion, 'Givati' Brigade.
Staff Sergeant Agam Naim (20) from Kibbutz Mishmarot, served as a paramedic in the 52nd Battalion, 401st Brigade.
During operations in the southern Gaza Strip, Givati Brigade troops entered the area of the Tel Sultan neighborhood in Rafah.
While the troops were inside a building in the area, an IED reportedly detonated, causing the building to partially collapse and resulting in the deaths of four soldiers.
Naim is the first female combatant to fall in ground operations in Gaza since the beginning of the current campaign.
The Paramedics Association released a statement about Agam’s death.
“Agam, one of the pioneers serving as a paramedic in a combat role, stood at the forefront of the battles in the Gaza Strip in a role that requires a unique combination of courage, dedication and endless professionalism. Agam was there to fight for the lives of her fellow soldiers, bearing an enormous responsibility to care for and save lives in extremely difficult field conditions.”
Several soldiers were injured in the incident, including an officer and two soldiers from the 'Shaked' Battalion who were severely wounded, while two others from the same battalion sustained moderate injuries.
In another battle in the southern Gaza Strip, an officer from the Givati Reconnaissance Unit was severely injured from RPG fire.
Following the incident, a medical evacuation helicopter was dispatched to the area, which transported the injured to Soroka Hospital in Beer Sheva for medical treatment. Their families were notified by IDF authorities.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog posted a message to 𝕏 mourning the death of the soldiers.
“A very sad morning,” Herzog wrote. “Four flowers – a heroic paramedic and three brave fighters fell, and their comrades were injured yesterday in fierce battles in the Gaza Strip. I hug the families and those who loved them. May the memories of Sergeant Agam Naim, Sergeant Amit Bakri, Sergeant Daniel Maimon Toaff and Sergeant Dotan Shimon be blessed and enshrined in our hearts forever.”
