Iranian intelligence claims it busted Mossad-affiliated 'terrorist-Zionist network'
Dissident groups play a prominent role in Iran's conspiracy theories
The Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence claimed on Tuesday it had arrested a “terrorist-Zionist” network affiliated with the Israeli Mossad Intelligence Agency.
The regime's Tasnim News Agency published what it claimed were “pictures and details of the arrest of a large terrorist-Zionist network.”
The ayatollah regime frequently claims to arrest alleged spies linked to Israel or Iranian dissident groups.
Iran also alleged that Denmark and the Netherlands provided funding for the Israeli-linked spy network, however, Tehran did not provide specific details of any such financial support.
The Iranian Intelligence Ministry stated that it had prevented the network from carrying out large-scale acts of sabotage in several Iranian cities that cooperate with the “Zionist regime.” Iranian authorities said they discovered some 40 explosives and pipe bombs.
Tehran claimed the arrested individuals “were active in training and setting up and equipping the network, and all these people lived abroad.”
In addition, Iran claimed the individuals were members of a “counter-revolutionary” group.
Dissident groups play a prominent role in the ayatollah regime’s official conspiracy theories.
The regime is particularly concerned about dissidents among its many discriminated minorities, who constitute nearly half of the total Iranian population.
In December, Iran executed four individuals accused of spying for the Jewish state.
In recent years, Israel has carried out several covert operations inside Iran, especially against targets connected to Iran’s nuclear program.
In late 2020, Israel-affiliated operatives reportedly assassinated Iran's nuclear chief, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, who was described as the “father of Iran’s weapons program.”
