Iranian regime and Hamas celebrate UN resolution demanding Gaza ceasefire

The Iranian regime and its terror proxies in Gaza, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), welcomed the recent UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. They hailed the decision as a victory for the regime against Israel.

The resolution was passed after the United States refrained from vetoing the call for a ceasefire in Gaza, unlike previous votes regarding Israel's response to the Hamas terror group's surprise invasion and brutal attack on Oct. 7

Hamas senior leader, Ismail Haniyeh traveled from Qatar to Iran on Tuesday, where he met with Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to discuss “developments related to the ongoing war on Gaza and all the variables related to the Palestinian issue.”

Haniyeh argued that the UNSC resolution was an indication of "the unprecedented political isolation experienced by the Israeli occupation.” The head of the PIJ terrorist organization, Ziyad al-Nakhala, was also scheduled to meet with Iranian leadership.

The Biden administration may have abstained from voting against the UNSC resolution to bring an end to the war and secure the release of the Israeli hostages in Gaza. However, Haniyeh’s remarks suggest the U.S. decision may have inadvertently encouraged Hamas to adopt an even more hardened position in the already challenging hostage release negotiations.

Haniyeh claimed that Israel “failed to achieve its political and military goals” in Gaza, referring to the stated goals of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to dismantle Hamas as a military and political force in the coastal enclave.

“We are going through a historical stage and a fateful turning point in the context of the historical conflict with the Zionist entity in the Battle of Al-Aqsa Flood (Hamas' reference to the Oct. 7 attack),” the Hamas leader stated during his visit to Iran's capital Tehran.

Haniyeh placed the current conflict in Gaza within a global context by arguing it was ultimately a war against Israel and its No. 1 ally, the United States.

“The Gaza war is a world war, and the American ruling body is the main accomplice of the Zionist crime because it is in charge of leading the war of the Zionist regime.”

The Hamas terrorist organization is supported by the Islamic Republic of Iran, which views Israel as the “Little Satan” and the U.S. as the “Great Satan.”

Hamas propaganda has successfully convinced much of the international community that Israel is to blame for the current humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Khamenei praised “the propaganda and media measures” taken by Hamas.

Prof. Abraham Wyner, an internationally recognized statistics expert from UPenn Wharton's Department of Statistics and Data Science recently wrote about how Hamas distorts and exaggerates the death toll in Gaza to gain international attention and to put political pressure on Israel to agree to a ceasefire before it defeats the terror organization and rescues all of the remaining 134 Israeli hostages from the coastal enclave, about 25% of whom have already died.
