Legal advisors in Israel's Ministry of the Interior expressed support for the memorandum of law that allows the stripping of citizenship and residency status of Israelis who express support for terrorism during wartime, as reported first on KAN 11.

Deputy Attorney General Gil Limon expressed many legal reservations about the proposed law, however, the Interior Ministry's legal advisors claim that it is a proportional law.

"As is done now in the criminal procedure, so it should also be done in the administrative procedure - a citizen or resident of the country who supports the enemy, identifies with it, or incites terrorism against the country while it is in a state of war, this requires an even more serious treatment than usual," claim the ministry's legal advisors Interior.

"That person clearly reveals the severance of his unequivocal attachment to the state and accordingly a clear and resounding harsh message should be conveyed that expresses the intensity of the disconnect that citizen or resident towards the state."

Last February, the Knesset plenum approved the law to revoke the citizenship or residency of terrorists.

According to the bill that was working in coordination between the coalition and the majority of the opposition, it will be possible to revoke the citizenship or residency of a convicted terrorist if he receives financial compensation from the Palestinian Authority following the act of terrorism he committed.
