Arab Israeli doctor to become one of Israel’s youngest professors
A young Arab Israeli doctor will soon become one of Israel’s youngest professors.
Dr. Abdulla Watad, 35 years old, is from the Arab village of Jatt in northern Israel. He specializes in rheumatology and is a senior rheumatologist at the Sheba Medical Center in central Israel, where he also serves as deputy manager of the Department of Internal Medicine.
Watad said his extraordinary achievement was the result of commitment, self-confidence, diligent labor and years of dedication.
“This is the result of hard work. It was quite early on that I appreciated the importance of the study I was undergoing. In the first month of my residency, I approached Prof. Yehuda Shoenfeld, a senior expert on autoimmune diseases at Sheba, and then finished my first study on antibodies in rheumatoid arthritis, which I presented in 2014 in Nice, France. From there, it’s all history. Then, I increasingly put my focus on rheumatoid diseases,” Watad explained.
The young doctor said believing in his abilities was crucial to his success.
“In order to succeed, you need four things. Will, a defined goal, hard work and a mentor that believes in you. A man has to believe in himself and know that he can go far. He must believe that he can do it,” Watad said.
