Israel’s security agency thwarts Iranian plot to assassinate Ben Gvir, Yehudah Glick
Terror cell operated under Iranian guidance through a contact in Jordan
According to a report recently authorized for publication, Israel's Shin Bet security agency exposed a terror cell operating in the West Bank under guidance and instruction from Iranian security officials.
The cell was planning to carry out terror attacks against Israeli interests within the State of Israel.
During Shin Bet’s investigation into the terror cell, five suspects were detained for questioning, including three Palestinians and two Israeli-Arabs, Hamad Hamadi from Nazareth and Youssef Hamad from Muqibla, Israel’s northern region.
Two of the Palestinian suspects, Murad Kamamja and Hassan Mujarima, were reportedly responsible for recruiting the Israeli-Arab suspects, and for coordinating plans with the Jordanian contact who was working for the Iranian security forces.
A source from Shin Bet said the “interrogation by the Shin Bet revealed that Murad and Hassan acted under the direction and guidance of an official living in Jordan, who acted on behalf of Iranian security officials.”
“The two were asked to help smuggle weapons into Israel and collect intelligence about security figures and senior public figures, including political figures, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and former Knesset Member Yehudah Glick,” the source continued.
“The investigation revealed an Iranian modus operandi of using Israeli citizens, including those with criminal backgrounds, and recruiting them to promote terrorist activity on criminal platforms, in exchange for money,” according to the Shin Bet source.
“This matter illustrates, once again, Iran's increasing efforts to undermine security, and social and political stability in Israel, by recruiting Israeli and Palestinian citizens for security and criminal activity.”
With the arrest of the five suspects and the discovery of the terror cell, the plot to conduct an attack on either Glick or Ben Gvir was foiled.
Following the news of the terror cell arrest, as well as the plot against the Israeli ministers, Ben Gvir said, "I thank the members of Shin Bet and the members of the security forces who led to the exposure and capture of the terror cell that intended to assassinate a minister in Israel.”
Ben Gvir also vowed to continue his efforts to increase restrictions on terror prisoners.
