Miracle operation in Israel successfully separates twins conjoined at the head
The two baby girls are expected to live completely normal lives
As Israel was about to enter a new year, doctors in Israel successfully completed a miraculous first-of-its-kind operation in the country separating twins conjoined at the head.
The 12-hour operation was considered “life or death.” The two baby girls, who are expected to live completely normal lives, were born last August attached at the head but with separate brains.
The director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba, Dr. Isaac Lazar, told The Times of Israel of the remarkable moment on Sunday when the girls looked at each other for the first time.
“When the nurses brought the babies together, newly separated, they looked at each other, made noises, and gently touched each other – it was beautiful,” Lazar said. “You could see the communication between them, and it was just so special.”
