Netanyahu claims US seeks 'small' Iran nuclear deal, Washington denies it

He stresses that a potential Iran deal would not curb the Jewish state’s freedom of action against Tehran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Tuesday that the Biden administration wants to reach an informal “mini-deal” to prevent Tehran from advancing toward a nuclear breakout, rather than a full agreement.

Netanyahu noted during a closed-door meeting that, in his opinion, Washington has made up its mind and was currently waiting for a response from the Iranian ayatollah regime.

The Israeli prime minister, who has frequently warned the international community about the Iranian nuclear threat, admitted that Jerusalem and Washington have different views on Iran.

“We still have different views and we do not hide them, even about small agreements. We make our stance clear, in closed rooms and open ones,” said Netanyahu.

He also stressed that a potential Iran deal would not curb the Jewish state’s freedom of action against Tehran.

“Our stance is clear: No agreement with Iran will oblige Israel.”

“Israel will continue to do everything to defend itself,” vowed the prime minister.

On Tuesday, U.S. State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller denied that Washington seeks an interim agreement with Iran.

"There are a number of reports we have seen by various outlets about different deals and purported deals, the vast majority of those reports have been wrong or completely misleading,” said Miller.

The United States and Israel are both opposed to Iranian nuclear bombs. However, the Jewish state feels a higher degree of urgency to stop Iranian nuclear bombs because of the ayatollah regime’s explicit and ongoing threats to wipe Israel off the map.

Netanyahu and other critics fear that a smaller, informal agreement with the U.S. won’t prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

According to leaks in May, the Biden administration reportedly asked Oman for diplomatic assistance in mediating a nuclear agreement with Iran.

The emerging American-Iran agreement would allegedly offer Tehran waiving sanctions by the U.S. estimated to be worth of billions of dollars. In return, Iran would agree to curb its nuclear enrichment at 60%.
