Netanyahu: We are preparing for the possibility of war with the Palestinian Authority
Prime Minister confirmed that 'turning of the tables' scenario, in case of cooperation between the PA and Hamas in Judea and Samaria, is under consideration
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel is preparing for the possibility of war with the Palestinian Authority forces, against the background of discussions about concessions for the Palestinians and the issue of allowing Palestinian workers into Israel.
This was reported today (Tuesday) on the radio program "This Morning" with Arieh Golan on the KAN Reshet B channel.
In a closed discussion with the prime minister that took place during the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Netanyahu was asked by Knesset members about the possibility of a 'turning of the tables' scenario – a situation in which the Palestinian Authority (PA) forces turn their weapons against the IDF in Judea and Samaria as part of a cooperation between Hamas and the PA.
Netanyahu replied: “The turning of the tables scenario is known to us and it is under consideration. We are discussing it. And we want to reach a situation where, should such an event occur, then within a few minutes there would be helicopters in the air responding to such an event.”
During the discussion that took place, the prime minister said that “the Oslo Accords were a disaster which resulted in the same number of casualties as Oct. 7, over a longer period of time. The Oslo Accords were the fundamental mistake; they took the most anti-Zionist and anti-Jewish culprit and brought it here.”
Netanyahu conveyed the summary of the fighting to coalition members and was criticized for the intensity level of the fighting and the deployment of forces.
In addition, the prime minister addressed the question of the 'day after' the war in Gaza, saying: “The Gaza Strip will be under Israeli military control. After the war, a civilian administration will operate in Gaza and the Strip will be rebuilt under the leadership of the Gulf states. We will not succumb to international pressure.”
In response, a spokesman for the U.S. State Department said that “President Biden was very clear – we want to see the reunification of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip by the Palestinian Authority, and we do not want to see an Israeli occupation or reduction of Palestinian territories.”
