Only one remaining Righteous Among the Nations living in Israel
With each passing year – even month to month – the Jewish people are not only losing the remaining Holocaust survivors, but also the Righteous Among the Nations — non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews from the Nazis during World War II. Many were invited to live in Israel.
Just this month, 94-year-old Viktor Melnik, who along with his family, saved the lives of 22 Jews, died in northern Israel. Melnik left his home in Ukraine in order to reside in Israel.
With his passing, the last living Righteous Among the Nations in Israel is Jarosława Lewicka — an 87-year-old woman born in Poland— who now lives in Haifa.
