PA to grant $2.8 million in rewards to families of 1,500 Hamas terrorist 'martyrs' for Oct. 7 massacre in Israel
The Palestinian Authority, led by President Mahmoud Abbas, will be rewarding the families of the 1,500 dead terrorists around $2.8 million as a reward for raping, murdering and burning alive men, women and children in Israel during the Oct. 7 massacre on the border with Gaza, according to a report by Palestinian Media Watch, an Israeli nongovernmental media watchdog.
The PA established a law that any terrorists killed while attacking Israeli targets are to be hailed as “martyrs” and their families are each given a $1,500 one-time grant and a $350 per month allowance for life.
Families are able to receive even larger pay in accordance with how much damage their terrorist relative has caused. Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) says that the $2.8 million is probably a low estimate, as the war will result in the deaths of more terrorists, whose families will then be entitled to payments.
In addition, the PA will pay $17,590 to some 50 Hamas terrorists that Israel captured alive. Imprisoned terrorists receive monthly allowances from the PA and are provided with additional funding if they are married and have children. The $2.8 million in rewards comes in addition to the nearly $25 million the PA already pays in salaries to imprisoned terrorists and families of dead terrorists.
The Palestinian Authority, the official Palestinian government run by the Fatah party, will allegedly find ways to deliver the payments, despite the fact that Gaza is at war and that Hamas seeks to overthrow the PA government in Ramallah.
“The PA spends every month half of the [Martyrs Fund] budget for Gaza terrorists. We see it from the budget reports. They call it ‘South Palestine,’” PMW Director Itamar Marcus told the Tazpit Press Service.
“We are used to seeing the PA and Gaza as two different things, but they sit in the same money,” Marcus added.
According to PMW, the PA would not be able to make such enormous payments to terrorists and their families if not for the large contributions from the European Union.
“The Palestinian Authority should be sending a big thank you to the EU countries and Norway, currently the largest funders of the PA because the PA could not possibly make these terror payments without them. These donor countries like to pretend that it’s not their money rewarding terrorists, but everyone knows that the PA could not reward terrorists without this generous foreign funding. When payments to teachers, police, and street cleaners are taken care of by international donors, the PA has the hundreds of millions available it needs to pay for terror,” the PMW posted on its website.
The EU and its member states are currently the largest international donors to the PA.
Immediately following the Oct. 7 massacre in Israel by Hamas terrorists, Hungarian EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi announced that the EU would be suspending all aid to the PA, saying that the terrorist attack on Israeli civilians was a turning point and that there could be “no business as usual.”
The EU, however, almost immediately reversed course, stating that it would not suspend aid after all. Not long after, the EU doubled down, announcing it would be tripling its aid to Palestinians.
“The Commission will immediately increase the current humanitarian aid envelope foreseen for Gaza by 50 million euros [almost $53 million],” EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated.
“This will bring the total to over 75 million euros (about $79 million). We will continue our close cooperation with the UN and its agencies to ensure that this aid reaches those in need in the Gaza strip.”
