Second terror attack in Jerusalem within 24 hours; watch video reports from terrorist attack scene
Father and son injured in City of David shooting
Two men were injured in a suspected terror attack at the City of David archaeological site this morning.
The wounded, a father and his son, an IDF officer, suffered gunshot wounds to their upper bodies, according to Magen David Adom national emergency service.
The men were taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center for treatment. They were both in serious but stable condition. The attack happened on Ma'alot Street, near the entrance to the City of David site.
The Israel Defense Forces later said the 20-year-old off-duty officer is from the Paratroopers Brigade. He had reportedly managed to shoot and hit the attacker despite his wounds.
This is the second shooting in Jerusalem in less than 24 hours.
The shooter was a 13-year-old Palestinian youth, believed to be from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan (Biblical Siloam).
ALL ISRAEL NEWS senior correspondent Nicole Jansezian went to the scene of the terrorist attack and spoke with Master Sergeant Dean Elsdunne, international spokesperson for the Israel Police. Watch below.
Elsdunne reported that the teenage shooter opened fire from close range when he saw a group of religious Jews passing by.
He was quickly shot by two civilians in the group who were carrying licensed weapons. One of them said he saw the terrorist start to shoot and immediately opened fire, out of fear for his own life.
The attacker was taken to a police ambulance for treatment.
Israeli media reported statements from the boy’s family that he was an innocent bystander on his way to visit a friend.
The terrorist's brother added in an interview with the Arab media: "He was on his way to a friend's house in Silwan and has nothing to do with the shooting. He left the house during the operation and was injured on the spot.”
A picture shared by Ynet news showed a picture the 13-year-old forming the shape of a gun with his hands. The caption read:
“The 13-year-old terrorist Muhammad Aliwat, who was neutralized in today's attack but was not killed, wrote in his school notebook: ‘Forgive me mother, you are going to be proud of me’.”

There were reports of celebrations in Nablus and Jenin following news of the attack. Pictures on social media showed baskets of treats being handed out in celebration of the shooting.
Tareq Izz al-Din, spokesperson for Islamic Jihad in Judea and Samaria, said: "The heroic action in Jerusalem came a day after Khairi al-Qam's operation to harm the security establishment and the Zionist army. The resistance of the Palestinian people is not deterred by the threats of occupation - and that they will know that the resistance will continue until they are removed from our land."
