Shin Bet investigates rocket discovered during Jerusalem Flag March, authorities interrogating suspect
The Israel Security Agency, known in Hebrew as Shin Bet, announced Sunday evening that it is investigating the source of a rocket that was found during the Flag Parade in East Jerusalem last month.
The announcement came after a young Palestinian man in his 20s was arrested by Shin Bet on suspicion of planning to launch a rocket toward the parade that was taking place on Jerusalem Day.
Shin Bet forces had discovered the rocket near the Beit Hanina neighborhood in East Jerusalem.
The suspect, Abd Al-Hakim Buatna, is currently being interrogated by Israeli security to determine the nature of the device and whether the suspect has any connections with a terror organization.
According to the investigation, Buatna claimed to have learned about rocket building and explosives from the internet and the Telegram social media app.
The rocket, which appeared to have an old base, was not capable of being fired, apparently due to a combination of improper construction and poor materials.
Buatna reportedly told investigators he is not affiliated with any terror group. He also reportedly said he built the rocket to launch.
