After more than 50 years of diplomatic relations, Singapore to open embassy in Israel for first time
“This is further evidence of the good and special relations between our two countries," said Israeli foreign minister
Singapore’s foreign affairs minister announced today that his country will open an embassy in Israel for the first time.
Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan made the announcement today while visiting Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid. The two nations have enjoyed diplomatic relations for 50 years, but Singapore has yet to open an embassy in the Jewish state. Israel has one in Singapore.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the embassy in Tel Aviv will "serve as a focal point and support Singapore companies seeking to expand their collaboration with potential Israeli partners.”
Balakrishnan and Israel's Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Orit Farkash-Hacohen signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in AI between Singapore’s Smart Nation and Digital Government Office and Israel’s Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology.
Lapid welcomed the decision by Singapore.
“This is further evidence of the good and special relations between our two countries," Lapid said Monday afternoon.
