Supporting IDF soldiers, healing communities: Inside Unity Warriors’ mission

In an inspiring discussion with Christian journalist Paul Calvert, Ben Goldstein, founder and CEO of Unity Warriors, delves into the origins and mission of his organization, which supports Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers by providing life-saving combat equipment and fostering unity in Israel.

Goldstein began his initiative in 2014 after the tragic kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers. He recognized the immediate needs of the soldiers deployed to search for them. “I realized that these soldiers would be coming down here searching for these three kidnapped boys, and they'd have nothing,” Goldstein explained.

He detailed how his efforts grew from small gestures, like buying cokes and snacks, to running today’s internationally supported organization that provides soldiers with trauma kits, upgraded protective gear, and other essential items often unavailable through official channels.

Since Oct. 7, 2023, the organization has distributed nearly 13,000 trauma kits to Gaza and 1,200 to Lebanon. Goldstein shared an example of impact: “Without those kits that we supplied... those soldiers would have bled out.” He estimates these tools have saved 97 lives so far, a figure in which he takes immense pride.

Unity Warriors is also deeply committed to planting trees in Israel as a symbol of life and growth amid conflict. Over 14,000 trees have been planted along the ancient Path of the Patriarchs, overlooking Bethlehem and Jerusalem.

“To plant new life into this land is a great testament to our dedication to Israel,” Goldstein remarked. These mature trees, sourced from local nurseries, are supported by irrigation systems funded by donations. Planting trees is part of the organization’s mission to cultivate the land and bring renewal to a region marked by hardship.

Beyond equipping soldiers and planting trees, Unity Warriors contributes to mental health recovery and community resilience. Goldstein described plans for a home for lone soldiers and a treatment center for people living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complete with therapy gardens.

“We want to make certain that people around us know that they're not going to be turned away for treatment,” he emphasized.

Additionally, Unity Warriors constructs water wells and builds other recreational spaces that reflect their dedication to protecting and nurturing Israel’s growth.

Goldstein’s passion for Israel drives every aspect of his work. “I know that my feet need to be connected to this land. Why? Not just because it's beautiful, but because this is the only place on earth that I feel the truth of godliness…” he shared.

Unity Warriors, through its transparency and mission of unity, has become a beacon of hope for Israeli soldiers and civilians.
