Unusual US request of Israel: 'Don't harm Hamas police officers'
The U.S. government has demanded that Israel stop targeting Hamas policemen, claiming they are "the only option to escort humanitarian aid convoys," as reported on KAN 11's Saturday evening news program.
Israel, however, does not intend to change its strategy and plans to target any Hamas terrorist regardless of his position.
According to the U.S. demand, as long as there is no alternative for escorting the humanitarian convoys, the aid is liable to be looted and will, therefore, not reach its destination.
Despite the U.S. Biden administration insisting on the matter, a security official told KAN 11 news: "Israel will continue to target every Hamas member, including Hamas policemen who secure convoys."
The demand not to harm Hamas policemen was one of the issues raised in a conversation between U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
