US reportedly presents interim Iran agreement draft to European, Israeli officials

Washington reportedly presented a new interim agreement draft on Iran to Israeli and European officials In recent weeks, according to the news outlet Axios, which broke the story on Monday evening.
The Biden administration’s interim agreement reportedly offers Iran a partial easing of economic sanctions in return for Tehran agreeing to partially freeze its nuclear program.
It is unclear whether the interim agreement would succeed. Unnamed sources reportedly told Axios that the ayatollah regime in the Islamic Republic of Iran has not expressed any interest in fulfilling any of the proposed requirements.
In a likely message to U.S. allies, a White House National Security spokesperson stressed that U.S. President Joe Biden is “absolutely committed to ensuring Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon, and we still believe diplomacy is the best way to achieve that objective.”
If a new Iran agreement is indeed in the making, it would mark a dramatic change from the recent past. In October, U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price announced that an Iran nuclear deal is “not our focus right now.”
“The Iranians have made very clear that this is not a deal that they have been prepared to make, a deal certainly does not appear imminent,” Price said during a daily press briefing.
Price criticized the Iranian regime for its unrealistic demands, referring to the original Iran nuclear deal from 2015, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
“Iran’s demands are unrealistic. They go well beyond the scope of the JCPOA,” Price said.
In January, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized the importance of closer coordination with Washington in confronting the Iranian nuclear threat.
“It’s time to close ranks between Israel and the United States – and others. And I look forward to discussing this issue with [U.S.] President Biden and his team. I think there is more of a meeting of the minds today than there has ever been,” said Netanyahu.
