US should support Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear sites, former Security Advisor Bolton says

The United States should join Israel if it decides to strike Iran’s nuclear sites, former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton said on Sunday.

The Iranian regime launched some 300 drones and missiles against Israel early Sunday morning, stating the attack was a response to the alleged Israeli strike near the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, that killed seven senior Iranian officers on April 1.

While Israel hasn’t decided if, how and when to retaliate, U.S. President Joe Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to claim the successful interception of the attack as a victory and forgo further retaliatory strikes.

On Sunday, White House Spokesman John Kirby said the decision regarding how to proceed is “going to be up to” Israel.

Bolton, who served during Trump's administration, told NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday” that an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear strikes would be in America’s interest as well.

“I think Israel needs to put a stop to it. And that’s not just in Israel’s interest, it’s in America’s interest,” said Bolton. “Iran is a nuclear proliferator, is a threat to us. Just like North Korea is. Frankly, if Israel is prepared to go after Iran’s nuclear program, the United States should proudly join them.”

“I think Israel has a wide range of potential targets starting by flattening Iran’s air defense capabilities,” Bolton said in a CNN interview.

“Most importantly, I think Israel should be looking at this as an opportunity to destroy Iran’s nuclear weapons program, which is the existential threat that Israel faces,” he added.

Bolton argued that the successful interceptions of 99% of the Iranian launches toward Israel showed Iran's weakness, opening a window of opportunity to strike the regime.

“And a way to pin that down is for Israel to go after Iran’s nuclear weapons program, which I think it can destroy or disable a very substantial part, if not totally,” he added.

“[Iran] looks like fools today. They launched… the last number I heard was 320… it’s up to 400. Whatever it is, 300 plus drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles, and maybe three or four got through. So, who’s the fool in this posture right now? Who looks weak? The regime in Iran looks weak,” Bolton told NewsNation.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that America's weakness had led to the unprecedented attack against Israel.

“Before going any further, I want to say God bless the people of Israel. They're under attack right now,” Trump said during a rally in Pennsylvania.

“That's because we show great weakness,” he asserted. “The weakness that we’ve shown is unbelievable, and it would not have happened if we were in office. You know that. They know that, and everybody knows that.”

He added that America was praying for Israel and sending support for everyone in danger of being harmed.

The Iranian regime is possibly days away from having sufficient material for a nuclear weapon, according to a report in the Washington Post.

The report, based on the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) most recent inspection of Iranian nuclear sites in February, highlighted "indications of alarming change."
