VP Kamala Harris praises student who accused Israel of 'ethnic genocide' for 'speaking her truth'
Veep's response likely to cause concern among American allies as Harris fails to correct remark which has now gone viral
U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris is under fire for failing to confront a student that said Israel is guilty of “ethnic genocide and displacement of people” while speaking to the vice president.
Instead of pushing back at the student’s characterization of Israel, Harris told her, “your truth should not be suppressed.”
After the vice president spoke to a class at George Mason University in Virginia on Tuesday, the student mentioned that Congress voted overwhelmingly to restock Israel’s missile defense system despite mass pro-Palestinian protests.
“I see that over the summer there have been, like, protests and demonstrations in astronomical numbers,” the student said. “Just a few days ago there were funds allocated to continue backing Israel, which hurts my heart because of it’s ethnic genocide and displacement of people, the same that happened in America, and I’m sure you’re aware of this.”
Instead of correcting the libelous comment about America’s No. 1 ally in the Middle East, Harris said she was “glad” the student voiced her concerns.

“A democracy is at its strongest when everyone participates, it is weakest when anyone is left out,” Harris said.
Harris did say that “we still have healthy debates in our country about” Middle East policy and that “nobody’s voice should be suppressed on that,” she said.
The student also commented that this funding should go to Americans who are struggling rather than “to inflaming Israel and backing Saudi Arabia and what-not.”
Author and political commentator Douglas Murray said Harris’ seeming apathy toward this "libel" is setting off alarm bells among America’s allies, especially Israel.
“People I speak to around the world – including in recent days in Israel – are concerned about this,” he said on Fox News. “They’re concerned when they see people, this senior, trashing and allowing the trashing of American allies.”
“We see last week Democrats – members of Harris’ own party – voting to defund Israel’s Iron Dome, that is to defund a defensive weapons system,” he noted. "Now we see the vice president just nodding along as a very, very ignorant American student libels an ally.”
Murray said the atmosphere in Washington is far from what the Biden administration had promised.
“This administration was meant to be talking about building alliances and rebuilding alliances as if Donald Trump had trashed them all, which he hadn't, and now we see just days after each other, we see what happened with America’s allies in Afghanistan,” he noted.
