Yad Vashem museum invites Whoopi Goldberg to learn about the causes and aftermath of the Holocaust
Israel’s Holocaust Museum reacts to Goldberg’s outrageous remarks, calls them an ‘unfortunate indication of a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of the Holocaust and anti-Semitism’
Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem, extended an open invitation to Whoopi Goldberg to come visit the museum and learn about the causes and aftermath of the Holocaust.
The museum’s chairman, Dani Dayan, said that Goldberg’s words demonstrated “unfortunate indication of a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of the Holocaust and anti-Semitism.”
"We must not mince words; people need to know what led to the Holocaust, the unprecedented murderous drive to annihilate the entire Jewish people – their religion, culture and values – by the Nazis and their collaborators, primarily due to the unfounded belief that Jews were their foremost and extremely dangerous racial enemy,” Dayan continued.
“While her apology and clarification are important, I extend a personal invitation to Ms. Goldberg and other influencers to learn more about the causes, events and aftermath of the Holocaust here at Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem.”
On Monday, the Hollywood actress and co-host of ABC’s “The View” said in a panel discussion that the Holocaust was not about race.
“Let’s be truthful about it,” she stressed against some pushback from her co-hosts and repeated, “It’s not about race. It’s not about race. It’s about man’s inhumanity to man.”
Goldberg tried to explain her outrageous point, claiming that “this is White people doing it to White people, so y'all gonna fight amongst yourselves," referring to the Holocaust.
Her remarks came as part of a discussion over a Tennessee school district's decision to ban “Maus,” a graphic novel that depicts the horrors of the Holocaust.
Goldberg’s comments caused shockwaves in Israel with the country’s leading channels and news outlets covering the scandal.
