Bennett compares his administration’s achievements with those of the current Netanyahu government
Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett remarked on Sunday that the Netanyahu government has been in power for 100 days and then compared it with “what the Bennett government accomplished in its first 100 days.”
Bennett, once a close ally of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has become a vocal critic of the current prime minister, who was elected last November, along with his coalition.
“Things could be different,” Bennett said in a video posted on social media, referring to his own administration’s accomplishments.
The former premier highlighted among these accomplishments his own “historic visit” to Egypt, where he met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi; distributing a third dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to 3 million Israelis and increasing the budget for Jewish immigration to Israel.
In September 2021, el-Sisi hosted then-Prime Minister Bennett in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh. It was reportedly the first publicized meeting between Egyptian and Israeli leaders in Egypt in a decade.
Following his resignation as Israel’s prime minister in June, Bennett has been busy with speaking engagements worldwide. His diplomatic missions and public engagements have been focused on the United States, where he has close connections as his parents made aliyah (immigrated to Israel) from the U.S. before he was born.
Both at home and abroad, Bennett has presented himself as a unifying alternative to the current Netanyahu government.
During a speaking engagement in Australia in February, Bennett stressed that only the formation of a unity government could end Israel’s current “messy” political reality. Bennett is among the growing number of critics who condemn the Netanyahu coalition for going “too far” with the judicial overhaul.
