IDF repels terror infiltration from Lebanon, rocket alarm sounds in northern Israel
Israeli military eliminates two terrorists who infiltrated from Lebanon
Sirens sounded out in Israel’s northern communities near the Lebanon border at around 2 p.m. this afternoon, leading many to fear that Hezbollah terror organization was joining the war against Israel on the side of Hamas.
According to sources in Lebanon, between 12 and 15 rockets were fired from Lebanese territory. The Israel Defense Forces said only one rocket crossed the border in Israeli territory.
Shortly afterward, the IDF announced it had thwarted an infiltration attempt, killing several terrorists who crossed into Israeli territory from Lebanon.
“Following the initial report, IDF soldiers killed a number of armed suspects that infiltrated into Israeli territory from Lebanese territory. The soldiers are continuing to search the area. Additionally, IDF helicopters are currently striking in the area.”
The IDF reported it had eliminated two of the infiltrators in an exchange of fire in the evening, while another escaped back into Lebanese territory.
During the fighting, IDF jets attacked three positions belonging to Hezbollah, with artillery units joining, as well.
“The IDF is ready for incidents in all arenas and will continue to defend all citizens in the State of Israel,” the IDF stated.
About an hour after this incident, additional sirens sounded.
The IDF later stated the alarms were triggered by mortar attacks from positions in Lebanon.
“Following the initial report regarding sirens that were sounded in northern Israel, two launches of mortar shells toward Israeli territory were identified. One of the launches fell in Lebanese territory. No injuries were reported.”
Hezbollah reportedly assured the Lebanese government that the terror organization would not join Hamas in its fight against Israel unless the Jewish state “harassed” Lebanon, according to Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bouhabib on Monday.
