IDF security forces arrest Jenin terrorist who killed counter-terrorism police officer
Israeli security forces on Wednesday morning apprehended a suspect known as a “high-level militant operative” for the killing of a sergeant major in the Israel Police elite counter-terrorism unit on May 13.
Sergeant Major Noam Raz, 47, a YAMAM counter-terrorism officer, was shot while conducting a raid on a terror suspect’s home in the Jenin area. He died from his wounds after being evacuated to a hospital.
Intelligence provided by the Israel Security Agency, or Shin Bet, led to the arrest of 23-year-old Tzedki Ahmed Ali Marai for his suspected involvement in the slaying.
Marai is known to have taken part in numerous shootings against Israel Defense Forces soldiers and was found with an M-16 rifle and two handguns at the time of his arrest.
The operation also triggered a firefight when a second suspect threw an explosive device at the Israeli soldiers making the arrest. The soldiers responded with live fire and the suspect was killed.
The IDF Operation Break the Wave continued Wednesday night with Shin Bet officers and Israel Border Police units operating across Judea and Samaria, arresting five individuals wanted on suspicion of terrorism.
Security forces arrested two terror suspects in refugee camps outside of Bethlehem, a third suspect near Ramallah and two others in the village of Dura near Hebron.
