Israeli police to boost Jerusalem presence as far-right group, La Familia, announces rally today
Israeli police announced they will be boosting police presence in Jerusalem today, following the announcement by the far-right group, La Familia, which said it would hold its counter protest in the nation's capital, instead of Tel Aviv.
La Familia has a history of racist rhetoric and violence against Arab communities in Israel over the years.
The group announced a counter protest earlier today after Knesset Member Simcha Rothman called on supporters of the judicial reforms to go out and protest in response to opposition protests.
Previously, Netanyahu had asked ultra-Orthodox religious leaders to call on their followers not to confront protestors, especially in the city of Bnei Barak, which has an ultra-Orthodox majority.
However, many in the coalition are upset that opposition protestors are dominating the news cycle, and say that supporters of the reform should be more visible.
