Israeli President Herzog calls Israel ‘modern miracle,’ cites biblical Hebrew prophet as inspiration for rebirth of Jewish state
JERUSALEM, ISRAEL — Marking the 75th anniversary of modern Israel’s independence in 1948, Israeli President Isaac Herzog this morning described the Jewish state as a “modern miracle.”
Herzog specifically cited the writings of the biblical prophet Zechariah as one of the inspirations for the resurrection of the country after centuries of exile.
Addressing a standing-room-only crowd at a conference organized by the Jerusalem Post and the Museum of Tolerance, Herzog called Israel a “vibrant democracy” and vowed to protect that democracy.
He pledged his deep commitment to seeking broad national consensus to reform Israel’s judicial process.
