Historic: Israeli President Isaac Herzog to make first state visit to Bahrain
Herzog will travel to Bahrain on Dec. 4 to meet with the Bahraini king before continuing on to the United Arab Emirates for the Abu Dhabi Space Debate
Israeli President Isaac Herzog will embark on a two-day tour to the Middle East Gulf on Sunday, Dec. 4, starting with an unprecedented meeting with the king of Bahrain, the president’s office announced this week.
Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa invited the Israeli president to meet him at the king’s Gudaibiya Palace in the Bahraini capital, Manama. Herzog will be the first Israeli head of state to visit Bahrain.
In February, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett became the first Israeli premier to visit Bahrain.
The president is expected to meet other government officials and Jewish community members in Manama, as well as meet with the Bahrain Economic Development Board along with representatives from Israeli businesses.
Herzog will continue his Gulf trip in the United Arab Emirates, where he will attend President Mohammed bin Zayed’s Abu Dhabi Space Debate on Monday, Dec. 5, the leaders’ fourth meeting since Herzog entered office.
According to the president’s office, Herzog and bin Zayed will discuss “strengthening Israel-UAE relations, the importance of peace and the expansion of bilateral cooperation.”
