One Israeli dead, one seriously wounded in drive-by terror shooting near Hebron
An Israeli woman was murdered and a man was seriously wounded in a drive-by terrorist shooting attack on Highway 60, near Hebron in the West Bank on Monday morning, according to Israeli media reports.
The 42-year-old woman was administered CPR on the scene by Magen David Adom and IDF paramedics but succumbed to her wounds shortly after. The woman has since been identified as Batsheva Nigri, a resident of the nearby Bet Hagai settlement. Her 12-year-old daughter, also in the car during the attack, remained miraculously unharmed, Israel's Channel 14 news reported.
The 39-year-old man, in serious condition, was transported to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva.
Paramedic Moshe Barsheshet described the scene: "The man and the woman were lying close to the car, while they were unconscious and suffering from gunshot wounds. Together with an IDF paramedic unit we administered first treatment, including stopping their bleeding. The man who was seriously wounded was evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in an ambulance. The woman was treated at the scene while she was unconscious and in critical condition."
Israel Defense Forces confirmed the incident and began setting up roadblocks in the area to search for the suspects, who remain at large.
Security forces believe the terrorists fled into the industrial section of southern Hebron to escape capture.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is being updated on the latest developments.
A Hamas spokesperson meanwhile praised the terror attack, calling it a part of the religious war over the holy places in the land.
According to Yedioth Ahronoth news outlet, the murdered woman is the 34th Israeli terror victim in 2023, making this the most deadly year since the Second Intifada.
