Suriname to open embassy in Jerusalem ‘soon’
Suriname will join the United States, Guatemala, Honduras and Kosovo which have opened their missions in Jerusalem
Suriname – the Dutch-speaking South American nation – is set to become the fifth country to open an embassy in the Israeli capital.
Foreign Minister Yair Lapid made the announcement on Twitter yesterday.
“Today, during our meeting in Jerusalem, Surinamese Foreign Minister Albert Ramdin informed me that his country plans to soon open an embassy in Jerusalem,” Lapid said.
Suriname will join the United States, Guatemala, Honduras and Kosovo which have opened their missions in Jerusalem.
The two foreign ministers signed a cooperation agreement between their ministries.
Israel also offered to send aid to help Suriname deal with the devastating effects of flooding that destroyed some residential areas, infrastructure and agriculture earlier this year.
